• Do you turn to food when you are sad, lonely, bored, or angry?
• Do you Binge?

If you answered yes to ANY of these questions, then SHW's LivingLean™ is exactly what you have been searching for!

WHY THIS PROGRAM WORKS (NOTE: A scientific critical review can be found under "corporate program")

I'll explain why but first let me ask you a couple of questions to see if we are in alignment.

If you didn’t eat white breads, fats, sweets, pastas or have second helpings in the manner you do, you probably wouldn’t be overweight. TRUE OR NOT TRUE?

And...if you didn’t have desires for white breads, fats, sweets, pastas and second helpings you probably wouldn’t have a problem not eating them. TRUE OR NOT TRUE?

TURNING OFF THE CRAVING SWITCH
Real weight loss starts in your mind, extends to your emotions and finally to your behavior. In LivingLean™ you will discover why certain foods seem irresistible and HOW TO BREAK FREE from them … instantly! Using a proprietary combination of successful science based protocol; you will learn how to literally TURN OFF THE MENTAL SWITCH that controls the cravings you have for foods that sabotage your weight loss efforts. And in a few short days you will be well on your way to virtually eliminating them. This also goes for eating habits like snacking, grazing, bingeing, and mindless eating that are often a big problem. If you are an emotional eater, we will show you how to turn off that switch as well. No pills, no diets, no struggle.

In SelfHelpWorks’ LivingLean™ on-line workshop, Lou Ryan, your Instructor will teach you how to become more powerful person. He will teach you how to find the part of you that is vision focused and motivated...the part of you that is excited about life and living a high pride, high energy, lean lifestyle. No will power is necessary. Just a desire to end the struggle of dieting, regaining, dieting, regaining, dieting and regaining.

If you are looking for freedom from the frustrations of being overweight, then you are in the right place. All you need is the willingness to trust your intuition and risk a little time. If you are willing to do that I promise you that you will...maybe for the first time since childhood... be able to make healthy choices about what, when, and how much you eat, without feeling deprived, denied or feeling irritable. I call it Naturally "Living Lean "

Living Lean is changing lives!

I'm doing great living in the vision of living lean. For the first time I'm in control. Thank you soooo much.

You guys are terrific. I’m doing very good I just can't believe this has worked so well for me. It has actually changed and possibly saved my life. I have been chronically obese my whole life.

I look forward to every class and support audio. Lou sometimes mentioned we probably wish it were over... not me. I look forward to his very sensible programs.

I would recommend this program to any one who like me who wants to live a life of lean. I 'm loosing weight (100+ pounds) and don't even have to be on a diet!!!!! I just had some tension in my life and would have eaten for two days in my old frame of mind and I zoomed through the problem with no binges of anything.

Like I said before you, guys are all terrific and I can't wait to tell everyone who will listen.

I have lost about 11 pounds but more importantly, I've become much more conscious of what I'm eating and why. I now am eating more fruit, vegetables, and healthy foods. I'm making better choices when I shop by reading labels and staying within a range that they describe as "living lean thinking"

I think the Living Lean program is wonderful. It helped me shed 30 pounds and I've been able to keep them off.

I suvived the holidays and whenever I start a pity party I stop... read creed...pity all gone. (Urges have been so few and quiet sometimes I don't even realize I need to creed.) I've survived Halloween, trips to our houseboat (non-stop snacking), opening a restaurant (non-stop stress and breaks from dawn till midnight) and even a false accusation which threatened my husbands life (complete breakdown) and I haven't munched.

I have been truly amazed. I weighed myself for the two month mark and found I have lost 18lbs! This is unbelievable for my body but the part that it harder to show to those people starting to comment on my change is the freedom, peace and control that I feel in my life. I am seeing how much Fear and victimization controls so many aspects in my life, not just with food.

Oh and in keeping in the conversation of lean, last Saturday I "ran" in a 10K. It was the first time I have ever been in a race event. I was 2nd to last but I did it, I finished! I still can't believe it but I am acknowledging myself like mad.

By the way, this is a great program! I am thoroughly amazed at the bad habits I've been able to break by using your program. As soon as I finish the last two lessons, I'm going to start over. Thanks for your personal attention.

My company recommended the Living Lean program under the umbrella of their "Wellness" program. They even offered a reimbursement upon completion of the program, so I figured there was little to loose! That pretty well sums up my "low expectations" of what I would personally gain in going through the program. Since I never considered myself terribly "overweight", I was primarily interested in improving my eating habits and lowering my cholosterol.

During the initial 5 weeks of participating in the program, I began to realize the wider possibilities of getting a handle on my eating habits! The most important insight I gained was the substitution of a positive goal for living lean instead of all the negative's normally associated with simply trying to diet. In my case, I chose to focus on the enjoyment I would receive from the renewed energy and stamina that would allow me to play basketball with my two youngest daughters.

At the end of the course I had eliminated my "main munch", which was afternoon trips to the vending machines at work. I lost about 12 pounds in the process. I also started a daily walk of at least 1 mile at a 20 minute pace. Now, after two additional months, I have lost a total of 23 pounds, and my cholosterol has returned to normal. My walking has increased to 4 miles, 5 days a week at a 15 minute/mile pace, and I fixed the basketball hoop and have had the enjoyment of shooting hoops with my girls! I'll be repeating the program this summer to work on another issue, this one involving the candy dishes that seem to every where I turn at work!

Your program worked for me! I am impressed by its simple common sense approach to a problem that most of us face - lack of discipline when it comes to satisfying ourselves. Thank you again.

I lost 77 pounds and feel like a million dollars. I haven't eaten fast food burgers, fries, or cookies since. The extra pounds just melted away. Mayo is out. I'm going to pick two more c/o's and take the program again. For me, it's not about losing more weight, but gaining control over what I eat and improving my nutrition. Thanks.

I'm still an ex-muncher and I have reduced my weight by 47 pounds. Thanks for your help!

From an evaluator at an Arizona company:
  • It is the first program that I have participated in that has given me a sense of confidence that I can continue to maintain the momentum created in the first 5 - 6 weeks that will change my life.
  • The program provided a no-nonsense approach to providing the background about foods, why some are bad, eating routines, etc.
  • During the program, my wife and I both lost 16 pounds.
  • The 5th week of the program (almost the end) we took an 8 day road trip to Arizona, and through eating correctly and exercising, etc., we were able to lose 1 pound during that very tempting week.
  • I have commented on the program and recommended it to a number of friends.
  • I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers but the pounds always returned, I think because there is less focus on eating correct foods.
  • I will continue to review/listen to the web-based messages to ensure I maintain the momentum I began.
  • Thanks for providing the encouragement to get involved and change our way of thinking to LIVING LEAN!

Critical Analysis/Program Review

The following critical evaluation is provided by John E. Martin, Ph.D. - Professor of Psychology and Director, Behavioral Medicine Clinic at San Diego State University and Scott T. Walters, Ph.D. - University of Texas – School of Public Health Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas

It consists of two major parts, (1) a process-focused overview of the SelfHelpWorks (SHW) programs in general, (2) a content-specific, comparative analysis of the SHW programs versus other Internet-based lifestyle management programs.

We find the SHW’s Programs (Living Free, Living Lean and Living Smart) to be safe and scientifically sound, based on the highest standards in the field of behavior change and Internet-based lifestyle management interventions. The SHW’s approach to dependent behavior is consistent with well-established theories of cognitive-behavioral psychology, such as bibliotherapy, behavioral self-control training, behavioral-economic theory and acceptance and commitment theory. Most importantly, two especially unique and positive features employed across the three lifestyle management intervention sites is SHW’s unique employment of methods designed to empower personal choice as well as urge- approach conditioning/desensitization.

Some might consider this to be counter-intuitive as it is a non-traditional approach in addressing and eliminating the urge to smoke, eat, or drink compulsively. However, it is a scientifically sensible employment of method (the encouragement of choice behavior and urge approach), rather than attempting to run from powerful urges through ways of advoidance. We believe that using the urge to smoke, drink, or eat as an advocate facilitates the normal desensitization process and disables the power of these urges to cause emotional crisis and compulsive/addictive behavior and relapse. Clients are taught in creative and effective ways to “dance” rather than rather than the more standard and less effective urge-avoidance/escape techniques which are to “wrestle” or fight with the urge – the latter which often leads to failure to withstand an urge and giving in to its pull.

Further, the staff at SHW was found to be highly motivated, very competent and self-directed, and clearly committed to the future success of the company and their clients.
